About Winnie

Born and raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Winnie Frolik has always found a home among books.

The Carnegie Library in Oakland was her second home growing up, and her lifelong love of reading eventually led her to pursue a double major in English Literature and Creative Writing.

Winnie has worked in a variety of fields, including nonprofit organizations, food service, and pet care, but writing has continued to draw her back. Her fascination with outsiders and unconventional characters is reflected throughout her fiction, particularly in the complex protagonists and richly atmospheric worlds of her historical mysteries.

Winnie is the author of The Mary Grey Mysteries, a five-book historical mystery series featuring The Illhenny Murders (2021), Death at Bayard Lodge (2022), A Swing of the Axe (2023), Peril in Provence (2024), and Gold, Frankincense, and Morphine (2025).

Her first novel, Sarah Crow, was published by One Idea Press in 2020. She has also self-published The Dog-Walking Diaries and co-authored a book about women in the United States Senate with Billy Herzig.

When she isn't writing or reading, Winnie enjoys spending time in her hometown of Pittsburgh with her better half, Smoky the Cat.
